Day 11: I am too old (or too young).

I’m too old to change careers.

I’m too young. I don’t have enough experience to apply for that promotion.

I’m too old to go back to school.

I’m too young (or old) for X, Y, Z.

God will use you at any age. Josiah was 8 years old when he became king and he reigned for 31 years. Sarah became the mother of Isaac at age 90. Elizabeth, wife of Zachariah, was 88 years old when John the Baptist was born. David was 16 years old when he fought Goliath. Moses was 80 years old when he delivered Israel from Egypt.

“Age ain’t nothing but a number.” Literally. We tend to place limitations on ourselves based on our pre-conceived notions and expectations about what we can and cannot do. Yet, throughout the Bible, the Lord used anyone who was willing.

Ephesians 2:10 says, “For we are God's handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.” We are all created to do good works. It's essential to note that there are no specific criteria—such as age, education, background, gender, or talents—that determine who God can and will use. This includes you. What excuses are you clinging to? What would it look like to let go of those excuses and embrace everything that God has for you?

Sometimes, fear holds us back, and we clutch onto excuses like a security blanket. It's easier to hold onto fear than to confront it and take a step of faith. But faith doesn't mean you're fearless. It means you acknowledge your fear, anxiety, and worry, AND you simultaneously choose to trust God to show up and make a way for you, even if it means parting the Red Sea.

1 Corinthians 15:58 “Therefore, my beloved brothers, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that in the Lord your labor is not in vain”.

When you work for the Lord, your efforts are not for nothing. I encourage you to pray and consider what excuses are you using to hold you back? Perhaps it’s time to dream with God. What is He calling you to do?

Dear God, I confess I have created excuses that have kept me from stepping out in faith and following you. Please forgive me. I pray for revelation and guidance. Replace my excuses with your truth. Thank you for your faithfulness, Lord. Amen.
