Maybe it’s been days, weeks, years since you’ve had a honest heart-to-heart with Jesus. Perhaps there is built-up disappointment, hurt, pain, and brokenness that makes it hard to even look at Jesus. Maybe there are no words, just tears.
I’m sorry for the experiences you’ve had that caused a rift between you and God. If there is any doubt if the Lord will listen to you and hear your prayers, let me put you at ease right now. God loves you and wants nothing more than to hear your voice and spend time with you. God has always loved you and yearns for you to draw closer to Him..
Matthew 11:28-29 says, “Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.’”
Jeremiah 33:2-3 says, “Thus says the Lord who made the earth, the Lord who formed it to establish it—the Lord is his name: Call to me and I will answer you, and will tell you great and hidden things that you have not known.”
Zephaniah 3:17 says, “The Lord your God is in your midst, a mighty one who will save; He will rejoice over you with gladness; He will quiet you by His love; He will exult over you with loud singing.”
God says, “Come to me. Call to me. I will answer you.” It’s that simple. We tend to add the ifs, ands, and buts. If you’re inclined even to do so right now, please don’t. Instead, start speaking to Him and tell Him all the things. He is not scared of your big feelings. He can handle your anger and screams.
The Lord wants us to seek Him.
Hebrews 11:6 says, “And without faith living within us it would be impossible to please God. For we come to God in faith knowing that He is real and that He rewards the faith of those who passionately seek Him.”
Take the first step right now. James 4:8 says, “Come close to God, and God will come close to you.”
Dear God, I’ve been away from you for quite a while. I don’t even know what to say. I intentionally come before you and seek your presence. I call to you right now. [Insert all your thoughts and feelings]. Amen.
