How often do we shy away from situations simply because we believe we're not "good enough" at them? We talk ourselves out of tasks and opportunities, driven by self-doubt, fear, self-pity, and the fear of rejection. It becomes a constant struggle.
We witness the heartfelt prayers of others, marveling at their eloquence and passion for God, wishing we could express ourselves in the same way. In doing so, we inadvertently set unrealistic expectations for ourselves based on what we admire in others.
Pause for a moment and consider: Does God truly demand flawless prayers from us, or is that expectation a burden of our own creation?
Jeremiah 29:13 says, “You will seek me and find me, when you seek me with all your heart.”
Hebrews 4:16 says, “Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.”
1 John 5:14 says, “And this is the confidence that we have toward him, that if we ask anything according to his will he hears us.”
Notice what the scriptures say: Seek me. Drawn near to the throne of grace with confidence. Not perfection. Nowhere does it state that we need to have the right words or sound a certain way.
Take a moment to reflect on any other expectations you may be imposing on yourself that hinder you from cultivating an intimate relationship with Christ.
Dear God, [your prayer goes here]. Amen.
