Day 33: Money is evil.
There is a lot of corruption in the world and some of it is motivated by money. Money can solve a lot of problems and needs. It is a part of our lives.
Timothy 6:10 says, “For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil.” The love of money is surrounded by greed and an unquenchable thirst. Money itself is not evil, but it is a tool, like a hammer or a wrench. It is needed to build the kingdom of God and to further the gospel and minister to people.
Ecclesiastes 7:12 says, “Wisdom and money can get you almost anything, but only wisdom can save your life.” Whether it is out of desperation or chasing monetary idols, we must rely on discernment and wisdom from the Lord.
How do we maintain using money as a tool versus an idol? We need to test the motives of our hearts. Are we holding back on giving? Are we chasing a promotion because of money or because the Lord specifically told us to go after that opportunity? It all comes back to checking our heart posture.
Psalm 51:10, “Create in me a pure heart, O God, . . .” Prayerfully consider your heart and where it stands with money. Please note, the Lord wants to bless you tremendously, and He needs to see that we can be responsible with what He has given you.
Dear God, test my heart and my motives. I pray that you highlight the thoughts and attitudes I have towards money and finances that are hindering me. Bring correction. Amen.
